I doubt his return is about money. It could be, but I really think it just drives him crazy to think of the media not saying his name anymore.

I’ll throw up some preseason power rankings before the regular season gets going. I only ever do the one before the season, I never did it week-by-week during preseason…so I might as well wait until all the preseason has been played, because most years significant injuries do happen. As for college, I usually wait several weeks into the season to start doing my top 25. I don’t have a clue who’s going to be great this year, and would mostly just be going on program reputation if I tried ranking them right now. Offseason info is a lot sketcher for college than the NFL with the huge amount of constant turnover.

I do think it is kind of a cheap shot going to an old division rival, especially the Vikings. Part of me wonders how much of it was just to spite the Packers organization and if there was even 1% of that intention, then that makes Brett PHARVE very childish. Much like my last sentence. Just say you did it for the money Brett, we would all believe you.

I know you are busy Leif, but don’t go soft on me. Are we going to see the Power Rankings soon? Both Professional and College?

I hear with you regards to worthless undergrad majors. I was a political science major at WSU. Once you start law school though, it really won’t matter. There are basically two types of law students, those who have an engineering/science background in their education and those of us who don’t. The engineering/science types have brighter job prospects with how much demand is out there for IP, all of us liberal arts majors are basically the exact same as each other as far as I can tell.

In the end, it’s not that your UG degree is worthless, it’s just that it’s turning out to be a means to a different end than you were originally seeking. Keep me posted on how things turn out for you, you’ve got me interested now.

Yeah, IU is ranked 23rd which is fantastic! I think that alone with help a lot. I’m looking at generally the Top 50 range. I haven’t taken the LSAT quite yet, but I’m feeling pretty good. Possibly low-mid 160ish. I’m more so inclined just to stay in-state and go to FSU or UF (ranked 52st and 52nd respectively) because tuition is only around $11,000 a year which is normally unheard of, and they place really well in the region. I’ve been doing lots of research so we’ll see what kind of scholarships I get. I’m applying to about 10-12 schools, and I plan to pick the one with the least amount of financial burden but also places decently.

Nope, no cold feet here. I guess a part of me just feels disappointed that my undergraduate degree is worthless (even though I know I wouldn’t be happy being a reporter. I did journalism because I love research, meet new people and write; however, reporting completely drained me and I found myself dreading the articles) and whenever I see a posting that’s somewhat related to it, I feel like I should be working elsewhere. It’s kind of hard to explain, but hopefully you get the gist of it?

Essentially, according to the research I’ve done on this, I’d say that within the top 14 schools, a person will almost always be fine. At the next rung (UCLA, USC, Texas, Vandy) people will generally be fine also. Beyond that, it starts getting risky, but less so if a school has a clear niche in a certain area like IU does. That’s why I feel fairly comfortable with my path at this point. In any case, I’ve made the plunge, so all I can do at this point is to try to pull the best grades possible.

In regards to your work decision, I’m not sure. It sounds like maybe you’re getting cold feet about the whole law school thing and want to see if you can’t still make journalism work? That could be a total misread on my part, but if you find something you like in journalism and find that you’re conflicted on which field to go into, you could still continue with this application cycle and in many cases you could get your top choice school to defer your admission for a year.

If you’re definitely still doing law school though, I’d just go with whichever job is going to be more stable and pay you more so you could potentially sock some away. Or you could do whichever one you will enjoy more for those 10 months, it’s really just a personal decision. Best of luck.

I graduated from undergrad with a journalism degree, and found NOTHING in my field. I did find something nowhere near my field though and will be working for almost 2 years by the time I do go to law school.

Also, in your opinion: I will probably be moving to the location of my law school in June-July 2010. If I were to start applying to jobs again (since some are actually opening up in my field) and actually get one…that would give me around 10 months with the new company (if I’m able to land and start a new job within a month or so). Is it worth it to look for a job again if I’m leaving so soon? Or should I just stay at my current job and continue studying/applying for law school?
